Museum bids a grateful farewell to Store Manager of 30+ years

 – By

The Ellsworth Heritage Foundation Inc. bids a fond farewell to our Store Manager. She has served for over 30 years while living here in the Black Hills, and we wish her success in whatever she does next. Thank you for flying with us, you have been one of our best wingmen, and we've counted on you for many years. Thank you for your service!
Congratulations!
In the early days of the South Dakota Air & Space Museum, the exhibits and collection were housed in the now old Wing Commander's building. It was in those days that our store manager first began working with the Ellsworth Heritage Foundation Inc.

As the project overhauls our airpark, cement mixers, gravel trucks, and high visibilty green colors are all seen frequently. Changes can already be seen with a new front entrance and gravel around our front aircraft. The project is designed to reduce the amount of water and maintenance the museum uses, so we ask for your patience as the work progresses.

2015 BBQ Finishes

 – By

The 2015 Santa Maria BBQ ended with smiles this year. A big thanks goes to the Deadwood Express Bluegrass Band for playing that evening and bringing spectacular music to the event. Another big "thank you" goes to all of our volunteers who made the event possible and helped get the traditional beef cooked and prepared. The auction was filled with South Dakota items from around our area, and the bidding was fun and enjoyable. We extend our sincerest gratitude to all of our guests who attended and helped support historic aviation and the museum for generations to come. We hope to see you again next year for another evening of fun, auctions, music, and beef!     Thank you!

Honoring Veterans

Hand-Crafted display of a P-51 Mustang model, “Big Beautiful Doll” with barn siding as a runway and an aviation print from our gift shop. We’re proud to be a supporter of these projects, as they will help honor our veterans.
This handsome piece was made possible by US aviation buff, Tim Birkett. His large collection of built and still-in-the-box aircraft models was his hobby. He carefully selected and skillfully built each aircraft. After he passed away, his handsome collection came into the capable hands of Mr. Dave Wallace.

Governor Proclaims June “General Aviation Appreciation” Month

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed June as “General Aviation Appreciation” month in South Dakota.

“Because South Dakota is an agricultural state, general aviation is very important to crop spraying but because of our rural nature, general aviation is also necessary to serve our emergency response and wildland fire needs,” says Secretary of Transportation Darin Bergquist.
